Queen Sirikit was born in Bangkok on August 12, 1932 in the family of H.S.H. Prince Nakkatra Mangala Kitiyakara (Kromamun Chantaburi-suranat) (son of Rama V). The name Sirikit consists of two parts: "Siri" - "glory, boon, good" and "whale" - from the name of Kitiyakara, that is, the name of the Queen means for "The glory of the Kitiyakara family".
Queen Sirikit is the widow of Thailand's King Phumipon Adulyadej (Rama IX), she met him in Paris. Rama IX, who ascended the throne on June 9, 1946 at that time studied in Switzerland and often visited the capital of France, where the future queen lived with her father.
